Top 10 Feed & RSS Technologies of 2011: Push4
Push4 / AppNotifications just got in the top 10 geeky RSS technology application from readwriteweb : Fabien Penso’s fabulous iPhone push notification app released a 3.0 version this year, but it’s just the nice clean basics that make this one a winner. Input any feed, or many other sources of information, and Penso’s app will push it to your phone in real time. It works...

More problems : more explaination
You recently had issues with Twitter, as our connection to the sitestreams API (real time) wasn’t working. I was using a beta url for it, which recently stopped working. I also had a user having 4000 pushes per hour, which generated a slowness issue. A few hours work fixed it, and your tweet should now be pretty instant, I expect them as instant as the official Twitter app, maybe more. I...

Downtime the last day: explanation
Yesterday I found out our slave was not responding, I’ve rebooted it remotely but it went out of sync generating issues like new data being inserted in the DB (so receiving notifications) but not being able to be read (like opening the app would not show the data). Problem is I’m currently in India, on a Edge connection through a USB Vodafone key, and yesterday just when needing it,...

Foursquare notifications & Foursquare Hackathon
I’ve added Foursquare pushes for your friends, only around a specific radius. I was tired to receive notifications for people checkin in on the other side of my city, I only wanted checkins for people around me (less than a kilometer). See this gist, and my Foursquare Hackathon submission, I would appreciate you voting for me once open. Push Notifications for your friends only within a...

Website update, Push Lite, new feature
I’ve never really be happy with the way you could create application to deliver push to other users, it lacked documentation of course but most of all, the authorization scheme was non standard (you had to use an api_key and pass_key, you would get a remote_id to tell which user you wanted to deliver to, etc). This is now history, you now have oauth to deliver Apple push notifications, and...

Today's outage
Today a user added a twitter keyword (iPhone) generating 700,000 pushes within a super short amount of time (a few hours?), which went fine. The bad idea was when I tried to delete those to help him running his device. The load on the server just blew up, and the company hosting us being in Paris, I had to wait they wake up to get a hard reboot. To prevent this, and as of now : Twitter...

Subscribe to RSS feeds from your browser
I always wanted to be able to subscribe to RSS feeds from my browser, while I was reading blogs. This is now possible, just drag&drop PushRSS in your toolbar, and click while reading a website you want to subscribe to. It’s easier if you have unlimited access so you don’t have to run the application to activate the feed.

v2 submitted to Apple
Our new version has been submitted to Apple. The bad news is: Yes, it will be a new paid application (for $0.99 at first), it includes any service you’ll want to activate. The new pricing scheme for this version is unlock per feature, for the lowest fee possible on the AppStore. The good news is: If you bought the previous application and unlocked it, you’ll have access to an...

Be the first to be aware of the Tablet today
You want to be the first to know about the Tablet, follow the event live on your iPhone thanks to our application. I’ve just finished the Twitter list support, create a list (notifications is a good name), and add Twitter accounts like macrumors to it. Visit your Twitter settings page and activate Notify for lists. Within 15 minutes maximum (but usually faster) you’ll have a list of...

Notifications v2.0 on the way
I’ve been working really hard on v2.0 of Notifications the last months, bringing inapp settings for all your push (Twitter, Facebook, Email and more) and still as instant as usual. This will be a new version of the application, and I’ll support v1.3 for people who don’t want to upgrade. Pricing will change too (again?), users don’t understand credits, and don’t like...

Enlarge your credits for free
Did you wish you add more credits ? Tweet about us and see your credits increasing, for free. Manage your Twitter settings, the new way!
I’m working on a easier way to manage your Twitter accounts, which should be fully working by now. Visit your settings page and apply for beta testing (I need lots of beta tester, so feel free to apply). Then on the right of your page you’ll see Connect your Twitter account. Connect as many Twitter accounts as you want, then edit their settings. You can select to receive notifications...

Unhappy users should be happier now
The recent change of the pricing seems to have generated angry users. Let’s add a bit more informations about the few questions I’ve received by email. The application will now be free for you to try it before purchase. You can unlock it in the settings later, price does not change. For free you have 100 notifications to play with the app. Once you unlocked the app you have 20,000...

iPhone developer : think about the present
As you might know already, the next version of my application is available on the appstore, and the pricing changed. In a day and a half over a total of about 14 weeks in the appstore, I had 50% more users (about 8,500 by now). Being free and listed on freeappalert.com does helps. However the amount of paying users remains the same for now, no more money, no less. You might be surprised but...

New version on the appstore: more feature, price...
Short version: the application will now be free for you to try it before purchase. You can unlock it in the settings later, price does not change. For free you have 100 notifications to play with the app. Once you unlocked the app you have 20,000 notifications, you can buy more credits (10,000 notifications for $0.99, should let you go for a year). The application still works if you run out of...

SuperFeedr Rivers service available
SuperFeedr did post a blog about the rivers : “The rivers will be freely accessible streams of data out of Superfeedr. The first one (and the one that’s in competition), is a sample of our global stream, with at most 1 message every 3 seconds : http://rivers.superfeedr.com:8001” This is great for you to try receiving RSS feeds, and you can use it now from our Notifications...

Suggest new feature, I'm listening to your request
The recent changes : You now will have the full message in your notifications for your Facebook messages, a little change but so much better for your push daily life. The 2nd version has been started, and the current development version I use on my iPhone is already way better with more features, and I can’t go back to the older version. I hope you will like it. This is a great...

Push your builds with Integrity and Notifications
Nicolas Mérouze from the Yeastymobs company released some code on github to push your Integrity builds to your iPhone. If some of you guys do cool stuff like this one, let me know. I’m very excited to see more use of the Notification API. Integrity is the angel watching over your shoulder while you code. As soon as you push your commits, it builds, runs your tests, and makes sure...

IRC push notifications to your iPhone
Yann Kerhervé wrote a post about a Perl module he wrote (available on github), allowing you to use our API to send notifications. He uses it within a simple IRC bot to send everything said on an IRC channel to you. Check it out, it’s cool! Thanks Yann.

Should the app be free forever?
Managing and running Notifications has its cost, I have to pay for bandwidth, the server, and work on it to make sure everything run smooth. The bottom line is: “should the iPhone app be free forever for you?” of course it’s not possible, and I would be stupid to think I could run this service forever with my customers having paid $2 once in a lifetime. I do understand how...

Introduction to my project: Notifications
I’m the only developer working on Notifications, an application that allows you to receive push notifications on your iPhone. I’m also not working full time (normally) on this application, even I think I worked 110 hours on it just within the last 7 days. This is the application official blog, where I will share what it is like to run such an application on the back office, giving you ...
